Key Treatment Projects

Legislative Breakfast: The intent of the breakfast is to invite state senators to focus on a particular aspect of substance abuse legislation.  Issues previously highlighted have been issues of parity and beer tax increases, with funding returning to assist with the cost of treatment.

Parity Focus: Insurance parity is critically important.  It often makes the difference between someone being able to receive adequate, timely treatment or not.  NABHO – Nebraska Association of Behavioral Health Organizations is taking the lead on advocating for parity and we will strongly support them however we are able to do so.

Screening and Brief Intervention and Referral (SBIR): This training project trains persons in health care professions (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, etc.) to ask a few basic questions regarding substance use and, depending on the answers,
suggest reading materials or agency assistance should the patient want it.  For 2007, trainings were established at the rate of one a month; with 12 already set.  Trainings are completed by key trained professionals and the SBIR project is conducted by the Lancaster County Medical Society.   Contact:  Joan Anderson   483-4800.  Joanianderson@yahoo.com.

Triple Play: Eleven agencies participated in this assessment of dual disorder services in Lincoln and Lancaster County, NE.  The study highlighted 5 high need areas, identified local experts in the field and connected Omaha and other State leaders in Behavioral Health.  This project is completed and a summary is on file.  To receive a copy, call 441-4944.

I Have Hope Campaign – This is a public education campaign focusing on stigma.  It has expertly designed materials thanks to Snitliy Carr, Inc. and is scheduled to kick off in the city and county by October 1, 2007.  We are currently raising $50,000 for this campaign.  The essence of the message is – You are not alone and Treatment Works!
We anticipate this being a 2-3 year campaign.

Waiting List Project –

Faith Partners Network – This project equips Nebraska’s communities of faith to develop team ministries targeting substance abuse, prevention and recovery.  National Training opportunities are brought to a local level as we build that infrastructure.
