Counter Advertising – Alcohol – This is a community-wide public education campaign directed primarily at parents, increasing their knowledge on the risk and harm to youth when they abuse substances.  It strives to reduce the age of onset, reduce the amount of underage drinking which occurs, and tries to change perceptions that drinking is simply a right of passage and everyone does it.  Contact:  Karen Heusel   475-2694  Kheusel@lcad.org.

Faith Partners Network – This project equips Nebraska’s communities of faith to develop team ministries targeting substance abuse, prevention and recovery.  National Training opportunities are brought to a local level as we build that infrastructure.

Communities Mobilizing for Change – is a successful project directed by coalitions in our rural communities. A best practice program for smaller communities, community coalitions direct projects and needs relevant to their own areas.  For some it might be alcohol free events and PSA’s but for others it may be different marketing strategies or Educational events. Meth Strategic Planning Process - is a joint effort between SAAC and Lincoln Action Program, Lincoln/Lancaster County has embarked on doing a community needs assessment and will develop recommendations on how to address our methamphetamine problems. 100 personal interviews and 12 focus groups are being conducted to determine our next steps.

Meth 360 - is a national media education program via Drug Free America and the Police Enforcement Research Forum which will begin in Lincoln this Spring. We have been selected as one of the ten review sites for this project.

Media Literacy – This program empowers youth and adults to become better able to analyze and evaluate the messages all types of media are utilizing to try to influence consumer choices regarding alcohol and tobacco. It helps individuals better decipher the complex messages they receive from music, television, radio, print, billboards, signs, packaging, video games, internet and other forms of media. People who are media literate are less likely to succumb to the influences of the marketing. Contact:  Tara Nettifee  475-2694  tnettifee@lcad.org

Youth Development -  At this time, a solid Youth Council has developed at Lincoln Council on Alcoholism and Drugs.  It has representation city-wide.  In 2007, the goal will be to activate similar youth Councils in neighborhoods that have Prevention Coalitions. The large central Youth Council will remain, but neighborhood specific activities may occur more often.  Contact:  Teri Voski at LCAD  475-2694 or tvosicky@LCAD.org.

Youth Problem Gambling – This public education program uses a revised model curriculum from Toronto Canada (YMCA) and targets youth ages 12-17.  The message is that gambling can become problem gambling if one is not careful; and problem gambling can have devastating effects.  We will begin 2008 with Faith Partners Youth Groups and then seek approval from the public schools to add it to the health curriculum.  Contact:
