Criminal Justice Team - Adult
General Purpose Statement: to remove barriers to the successful management and treatment of adult offenders with substance use disorders and to provide a strong seamless system for dealing with substance abuse.
Measurable Objectives - To reduce the following barriers…
- Inadequate communication between treatment and criminal justice agencies
- Lack of treatment appropriate to some offenders’ needs
- Lack of funding for appropriate treatment
- Education of treatment providers regarding criminal-genic needs of clients/offenders
- Cultural and linguistic differences.
Funding Sources: To date funding from the State has not come down to the Counties to begin addressing these barriers…but it is coming. The Community Corrections Act should make it possible for Lincoln Lancaster County to access funds to address these needs. Funding is anticipated to be put into evaluations and assessments, education classes, treatment opportunities, and graduated sanctions programs such as Day Reporting Centers. We hope to see these funds in 2008 via State Probation.
Key Projects: Some of these are projects happening at a higher state level, but which Lancaster County has clearly been and will continue to be a lead player.
Common Evaluation Project: a state effort to provide uniform, quality evaluations in substance abuse.
Education Forum for Lancaster County: An educational forum to be provided in early 2007 for Lancaster County. It will focus on all the new information regarding substance abuse programming statewide.
DUI Effectiveness Task Force: Formed in 2007 to determine the effectiveness of current DUI penalities for the 1450 DUI cases in Lancaster County.
Lancaster County no longer has an over-all Justice Council, so most of the activity from this area is directed by the State Probation Office.
